Gent have a chance to secure top spot in their Europa Conference League group when they face Ukrainian side Zorya on Thursday evening. The Buffaloes are currently top with 10 points, just one ahead of second place Maccabi Tel Aviv. The Israeli side will face Iceland’s Breidablik, who have yet to pick up a point in the competition. Should Maccabi Tel Aviv fail to win, Gent will be guaranteed to finish first if they take all three points. Zorya need a win to keep their chances of finishing in the top two alive.
In the reverse fixture the sides drew 1-1 in Lublin, with Hugo Cuypers and Eduardo Guerrero scoring for the two sides. Gent have since beaten Maccabi Tel Aviv at home, while also overcoming Breidablik twice. The side have not lost a competitive game since the 22nd of October, a run of seven unbeaten.
Zorya on the other hand are in a poor run of form. The side have only picked up one points from their previous six games, with their last win being against Obolon-Brovar on the 20th of October. Their last Conference League clash was a 3-1 defeat to Maccabi Tel Aviv.
