Gent v Breidablik Preview | Buffaloes have the opportunity to take control of Group B

Gent are currently unbeaten in the Europa Conference League and will welcome Icelandic side Breidablik to the KAA Gent Arena on Thursday night. Gent have won one and drawn one so far in the group stages this season, with their victory coming against Maccabi Tel Aviv. In their opening game they drew 1-1 with Ukrainian side Zorya.

Breidablik have lost both of their opening games in the competition, although they did show some fight against Maccabi Tel Aviv coming back from 3-0 down to make it 3-2 and almost force a draw. They narrowly lost 1-0 to Zorya in the previous game, so Gent should not underestimate their opponents. Domestically, the team are in poor form. They finished the league campaign with a three match losing run and ended up fourth in the Championship Group of the Besta Deildin. Their form was certainly hampered by the departure of Stefan Ingi Sigurdarson, who joined Belgian second tier side Patro Eisden.

Gent are coming off a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Cercle Brugge at the weekend. There is certainly concern around their star strikers Gift Orban and Hugo Cuypers, who have not scored in the league since August. Hein Vanhaezebrouck has be known to rotate during the Europa Conference League and the Breidablik clash will likely be no exception. Tarik Tissoudali scored twice against Maccabi Tel Aviv and will be hopeful of getting another start.
