Gent hoping to keep Sven Kums but captain Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe set to leave at seasons end

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Gent are looking to offer vice-captain Sven Kums a new one year deal. The 35-year-old has been one of their most important players this season and the club feel that he still has plenty to offer. Kums, however, is looking for a two-year deal, something that the Buffaloes are not willing to offer. They are also unlikely to offer a one year deal with an option of a second, as this will have to have an increase in salary. Kums is one of the highest earners at the club.

Another high earner is 34-year-old club captain Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe. With his recent injury history the club appear to have decided against offering the midfielder a new deal. the former Club Brugge midfielder has made 199 appearances for Gent since joining them in the summer of 2018, scoring 20 goals and providing 36 assists.

Other players who are unlikely to be offered new deals are Gambian international Sulayman Marreh and defender Bruno Godeau. Having missed out on the top four, the side are not guaranteed European football and must now plan for the future without the extra income. This summer was always going to be a period in which they would look to reduce the wage bill, especially giving that many of the higher earners are nearing the end of their careers.
