Gent extend contract of former Watford and Udinese midfielder until 2025

Gent have announced that veteran midfielder Sven Kums has been given a contract extension until 2025. The midfielder turned 36 a few months ago, but has still been one of the sides top performers this season. In 23 league games this season he has scored one goal and provided five assists, as well as being the sides captain when fit.

Kums began his career with Anderlecht, coming through the youth academy before joining Kortrijk in 2008. After a few seasons with the Kerels he moved across the border to play for SC Heerenveen, returning to Belgium in 2013. Up until 2016, Kums spent a year with Zutle Waregem before joining Gent. In 2016 he was bought by Watford for €9m, however he never made an appearance for the English side. Instead ,he was sent on loan to their sister club Udinese before leaving England to join Anderlecht in 2017.

After two seasons with Anderlecht he moved to his current club Gent. In two spells for the Buffaloes, Kums has played 311 times, scoring 30 goals and providing 41 assists. In the Pro League, outside of the play-offs he has played an incredible 362 times, with 38 goals and 51 assists.
