Gent demolish Zorya in game overshadowed by Paul Nardi injury

Gent ran out to a comfortable 4-1 win over Zorya in the Conference League in a match that was overshadowed by an injury to goalkeeper Paul Nardi. The 29-year-old was stretchered off in the 70th minute with what looked to be a serious injury. He was replaced by Davy Roef, who looks set for an extended spell in between the posts for Gent.

At the other end of the pitch, the side opened the scoring through Malick Fofana after 20 minutes. Shortly after half-time it was 2-0 when Zorya’s Arseniy Batahov put through his own net. Gift Orban then grabbed another Conference League goal, giving him five goals in four games so far this campaign. 23-year-old midfielder Omri Gendelman made it 4-0 shortly after Nardi was taken off, with Zorya getting one back before the end of the game thanks to substitute Denis Nagnoynyi.

Gent are now guaranteed to be playing knock-out football in 2024. If they avoid defeat against Maccabi Tel Aviv in their final game they will qualify as group winners.
