Genk v Cukaricki Preview | Genk looking to Fiorentina for favour to progress in Europe

Genk go into their game against Cukaricki with one and a half eyes on the other match in the group between Fiorentina and Ferencvaros. If the Belgian side are to have any chance of progressing they will need to win big and hope that the Italian side can do them a favour with a big win over the Hungarians.

If things go to form, Genk should in theory have little trouble in getting all three points at home to their Serbian opponents. Cukaricki are currently bottom of the group without a single point from their five matches so far. They have only scored twice and have conceded 12 goals. Genk have only one once, against Cukaricki, so far. They have had plenty of chances to grab more points, but ended up drawing three games. Ultimately, it will likely be this failure to hold onto winning positions that could cost them the chance to progress in the group.

In the reverse fixture, goals from Bryan Heynen and Joseph Paintsil were enough for a 2-0 win. Genk will hope to grab a few more, as Ferencvaros currently have a +3 goal difference to Genk’s +1. For Fiorentina and Ferencvaros, their last result was a 2-2 draw in Italy. Fiorentina rescued the game late on with a 93rd minute equaliser from Jonathan Ikone. A repeat of that result in Hungary will see Genk out of the competition. Fiorentina do still have something to play for, as avoiding defeat will see them qualify as group winners.
