Genk to face Servette in Champions League qualifying second round

Genk will face Servette in the second round of qualification for the Champions League. The side that finished second in the Belgian Pro League will have home advantage for the second leg against the Swiss side. The Geneva based side finished second to Young Boys int he Super League, edging out Lugano by just a point. Despite only losing six games all season, they were well behind the champions from Bern, who ended with 74 points to Servette’s 58.

Former Charleroi man Chris Bedia led the side in scoring with 12 goals, while also providing three assists. Another familiar face from the Belgian Pro League is Dereck Kutesa. The winger, formerly of Zulte Waregem, scored three goals and provided seven assists. Head coach Alain Geiger joined the club in the summer of 2018 and has managed 199 games, averaging 1.59 points per match.

Speculation is mounting as to whether or not the side will still have Mike Tresor on the books by then. The winger has been linked with another of top European clubs.
