Genk striker rejects a move to Champions League debutants Pafos FC

Andi Zeqiriโ€™s time at Genk is almost certainly up, but his new destination is still unknown. According to HLN, the Swiss striker has rejected the chance to join Pafos FC. The Cyrpiot side could offer the 26-year-old the chance to play Champions League football, having qualified for the competition for the first time in the clubs history. However, Zeqiri reportedly would prefer a move to a top five league. With time running out, the striker may be forced to look beyond the top five leagues if he wants to get game time.

Former Brighton striker Zeqiri joined Genk back in 2023 but struggled to become a first team regular. With the emergence of Tolu Arokodare as the sides main striker, Zeqiri was allowed to leave the club to join Standard Liege on loan for the 2024/2025 campaign. Zeqiri was one of Standardโ€™s few goal threats as he grabbed 10 goals in 26 games. Prior to moving to Belgium, the striker had had some success in Basel with 18 goals in 50 games during the 2022/2023 season.

Pafos FC overcame Serbian side FK Crvena Zvezda 3-2 on aggregate to qualify for the Champions League. However, even the prospect of top level European football has not so far been enough to convince Zeqiri to join Pafos FC.
