Genk in advanced discussions to bring Fenerbahce’s Mbwana Samatta back to club on loan

Genk are interested in bringing former striker Mbwana Samatta back on loan from Fenerbahce, and discussions between the two clubs are advanced.

Samatta joined the club in 2016 and enjoyed a hugely successful four years there, scoring 75 goals in 191 matches, and claiming the Golden Shoe in 2018/19.

At the start of 2020 though, he left for Aston Villa, and things haven’t gone so well since with him struggling there and at his next club, Fenerbahce.

He returned to Belgium on loan last year, playing for Antwerp, where he scored nine goals in 37 games, and Genk are reportedly hoping to strike a similar deal with the Turkish club this summer.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, discussions are advanced between Genk and Fenerbahce and, while Cardiff City are also interested, the striker returning is a very real possibility.

The 29-year-old would fill the void left by Cyriel Dessers, who is set to leave for Cremonese.
