Genk facing striker injury crisis ahead of play-offs

Genk are currently struggling for fit strikers as the season comes to a close. At the weekend, Wouter Vrancken was forced to use Yira Sor as a makeshift striker after Mbwana Samatta was ruled out through illness. He joined winter signing Tolu Arokodare on the unavailable list, with the Nigerian striker having been out for a number of weeks now. To make matters worse, Sor was forced to come off during the half-time break away to Standard Liege as he had also picked up an injury.

There is hope that Samatta will have recovered from his illness in time for the weekends game against Anderlecht, however it shows that the league leaders are now struggling in terms of squad depth as the injuries pile up. Losing Paul Onuachu was always going to damage their title chances, but if they only have one fit recognised striker going into the play-offs they run the risk of having a good season derailed through bad luck.

To make matters worse, Carlos Cuesta also had to come off injured during the game. The extent of his injury is not yet known, but it could mean an extended run in the side for Spanish defender Mujaid Sadick.
