Genk bring Joris Kayembe in from Charleroi

Genk have announced the signing of Charleroi left-back Joris Kayembe. The club has announced that the 28-year-old has signed a three year deal that includes an option for an extra year. Sporting Director Dimitri De Conde said ‘Joris has been on our wish list for a while now. As an extra left-footed player, he is the missing puzzle piece in our defence. Joris is the personification of our football philosophy with attractive and attacking football that we propagate throughout the club‘.

Kayembe began his career with Standard Liege before moving to Porto for free in September of 2023. He only made one appearance for Porto, spending time on loan at Arouca and Rio Ave. In the summer of 2017 he joined Nantes, but in three years at the club he only made three appearances.

Charleroi signed Kayembe in January 2020 and in the three years he has made 116 appearances for the club, scoring four goals. Genk currently have Gerardo Arteaga as their first choice left-back, yet now Kayembe will bring some competition for places.

The side are currently playing in the title play-offs, but despite entering the play-offs in first place, they have slid to third following back to back defeats to Antwerp and Union St Gilloise.
