Genk and Gent to battle for Japanese international Tatsuhiro Sakamoto signing

According to Voetbalkrant, Gent and Genk are both interested in signing Oostende’s Tatsuhiro Sakamoto. The Japanese winger is wanting to leave the club after they were relegated to the second tier of Belgian football. The club are reportedly willing to sell him, but are currently without a CEO after Gauthier Ganaye stepped aside. This may well delay any outgoing transfers until a new CEO is in place.

The 26-year-old, who can play on either wing, joined Oostende initially on loan in January 2022 from Cerezo Osaka. Oostende were happy to make the loan move permanent in the summer of 2022, with Sakamoto going on to provide six assists in 32 games. His dribbling ability and speed certainly stood out during what proved to be a disappointing season for the side.

The Japanese international has won two caps and began his career with Montedio Yamagata where he made 44 appearances and scored seven goals. During his time with Cerezo Osaka he played 81 games and scored 10 goals.
