Gambia’s Alieu Fadera showing improvement despite Zulte Waregem’s woes

Zulte Waregem have had a poor season and could be relegated this weekend if they fail to beat Eupen. One player who, despite the sides poor form, has actually had a decent campaign is 21-year-old Gambian winger Alieu Fadera. The winger has played 31 league games for the side, scoring six goals and providing five assists. This is a marked improvement on his first campaign with the club in 2021/2022, in which he managed 18 appearances without a single goal or assist.

With a market value of around €2m according to Transfermarkt, it is unlikely that with relegation the club will be able to demand that much. The player, under contract until 2025, will certainly be of interest to many sides in the Pro League looking for an exciting winger. Many teams in the Pro League like to use wingers as part of their tactical approach, and Fadera would certainly suit a number of them.

There is still plenty of room for improvement however. Despite the five assists, his crossing success rate is poor at just 17% according to FotMob. Furthermore, he has one of the lowest dribble success rates of the top 20 for dribbles per 90 with just 38% at an average of 1.8 per game. Yet, his improvement from year one to year two suggests he has gotten used to the Pro League, and at the age of just 21 he can certainly continue to develop.

Should the inevitable happen this weekend, it is likely that Fadera will be one of a number of Zulte Waregem players whose agents will be picking up the phone to sporting directors around the country.
