From Red Devil to Black Star: Denis Odoi among four Belgian based players called up to the Ghana squad

Over 10 years ago Denis Odoi won his one and only cap for the Red Devils, in an international friendly against Montenegro. Today Ghana announced their final 26 man squad, with the Club Brugge player being included. Since switching allegiances to the Black Stars, Odoi has been capped four times. His first two caps came in the qualifiers against Nigeria which saw Ghana qualify for Qatar.

Alongside Odoi, three others have been called up. Club Brugge teammate Kamal Sowah was included, having impressed during the Champions League campaign which saw Club Brugge qualify comfortably from their group. Sowah scored twice during the group stages.

Elisha Owusu has also received a call up. The Gent midfielder has struggled with injuries so far this season, but is clearly one that Otto Ado trusts. Eupen’s 23 year old goalkeeper Abdul Manaf Nurudeen is also among the 26, and may well see a chance to start in goal due to injuries to starting goalkeeper Joe Wallacoot and backup Richard Ofori.

As was predicted, Joseph Paintsil misses out, despite an impressive season so far with Genk.
