HLN and Sky Sports News are reporting that the owners of PSG will take full control of Belgian second tier side Eupen. Over a decade ago the Pandas were bought by another Qatari company, Aspire. There has been previous movement between PSG and Eupen in recent years and this move will solidify the already strong relationship between the two sides. In the current squad, Nathan Bitumazala made the move from PSG to Eupen back in 2022 and has played 44 games for the side. Being part of a multi-club ownership model is nothing new in Belgian football and Eupen will join the likes of Cercle Brugge and Lommel.
PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaรฏfi said โThe goal is to establish a modern and competitive football and business structureโ. Until two seasons ago Eupen were playing top flight football in the Belgian Pro League. They were the only side from the German speaking region of Belgium to do so but are currently mid table in the Challenger Pro League. Fans will hope that the link to PSG will benefit the club outside of just developing players for either the PSG first team or to be sold elsewhere. Lommel, part of the City Group, have shown how being part of a group where decisions are made outside of the clubs control can be detrimental to on field performances.
