Freyr Alexandersson announced as head coach of relegation threatened Kortrijk

Kortrijk have announced that Freyr Alexandersson is the clubs new head coach. The Icelandic head coach leaves Danish side Lyngby BK to take over at the Belgian club who are in serious trouble of getting relegated. He leaves the side sitting seventh in the Danish Superliga, having led them to promotion during his first season after taking over in 2021. Since returning to the Superliga the side have finished 11th and fourth under Alexandersson. He has signed a deal with Kortrijk until 2026.

The Icelandic head coach is now faced with the unenviable task of keeping Kortrijk in the Pro League. The Kerels are bottom of the table with juts two wins from 20 games, having collected just 10 points. they have only scored 12 goals, conceding a massive 44. They are the worst attacking and defensive side in the league.

Furthermore, there is no clarity on whether they will look to spend in January, as owner Vincent Tan is trying to sell the club.
