Frenkie de Jong set to return to action for Barcelona following two months out due to injury

According to Voetbal International, Frenkie de Jong has reached full fitness ahead of Barcelona’s clash with Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. The 26-year-old midfielder has been out of action since the end of September with an ankle injury.

De Jong has missed Barça’s last ten fixtures as well as the recent international break, which saw the Netherlands secure qualification for Euro 2024. Now, the former Ajax player could be back on the pitch during Saturday’s La Liga match. Barcelona have the chance to leapfrog Real Madrid in the table and move up to second place, if results go their way. Saturday’s opponents, Rayo Vallecano are currently tenth in the table having drawn six of their opening thirteen matches.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Barcelona boss Xavi said ‘Frenkie trained at full strength. He feels very good and is ready to play. We have been affected by his absence, he is a very important player.’ Frenkie de Jong missed some crucial games during his period of absence, including El Clásico, which Barça lost, as well as the 1-0 defeat to Shakhtar in the Champions League.
