French authorities ban the presence of Ajax supporters in Marseille ahead of crucial Europa League clash

According to Voetbalprimeur, Ajax will have to do without the support of their own fans in the upcoming Europa League clash at Marseille. Supporters of the Amsterdam club are not welcome in the Stade Vélodrome on November 30, the local authorities have decided.

Last month Marseille’s Ligue 1 match against Lyon was postponed after the Lyon team bus was attacked on its way to the stadium. Lyon boss Fabio Grosso was directly hit in the face and left seriously injured following the incident. Earlier this month, the authorities deemed it unsafe for Lille fans to travel to Marseille.

On Monday, Ajax revealed that they were uncertain whether fans would be welcome at the match against Marseille. The authorities have now banned Dutch supporters from being present in the city centre and the Stade Vélodrome. During the reverse fixture, Marseille supporters were allowed to attend the Johan Cruyff Arena. Ajax could do with the support as they’re currently recovering from their worst ever start to a season.
