Fredrik Aursnes not leaving Feyenoord for Benfica, says Arne Slot

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot says that Fredrik Aursnes is not leaving the club to sign for Benfica after a breakdown in negotiations.

Aursnes has been linked with Benfica throughout the transfer window and as recently as a week ago it looked like a deal had been done and he’d be heading to Portugal.

Since then though, it looks like there’s been a breakdown in talks, with Slot saying the midfielder is now staying put.

“The situation is calm now,” he told the press.

“Aursnes is not close to leaving. The clubs are not currently in negotiations. Benfica have been here, but that did not lead to an agreement. After that, there was no more negotiation.

“Nothing is as changeable as football, but I prefer that they don’t come anymore.”

He has also said that the club has adopted a new policy of not conducting negotiations with other clubs a few days before weekend matches.

“If a club is interested in our players, it can only lead to something at the beginning of the week,” he added.

“Clubs are allowed to call us on Mondays and Tuesdays, but no longer on Thursdays and Fridays.”
