License-less Fortuna Sittard will miss Conference League play-offs even if they qualify

Despite league permutations, Fortuna Sittard have announced that they won’t participate in the European play-offs due to the lack of a UEFA license.

Ninth place in the Eredivisie, it initially seemed all in Fortuna’s hands with two games to go. Theoretically, and due to Go Ahead Eagles’ KNVB Cup win, Fortuna would enter the Conference League play-offs.

The club did not meet the requirements for a UEFA license at the beginning of April and are therefore not allowed to play in the Conference League, even if the play-offs are won.

‘Providing an external auditor’s statement in accordance with UEFA regulations’ was one of the requirements that Fortuna could not meet, the club itself reported.
