Fortuna Sittard Eredivisie 2025/2026 Preview

Overview:

Fortuna Sittard had another season in the middle of the Eredivisie table last year, finishing 11th. Theyโ€™ve now been part of the previous seven top flight seasons since their promotion midway through 2018. Danny Buijs is in his third season with Fortuna Sittard and will be hoping to push for a European play-off spot. Despite finishing one place lower last season, the last two seasons has seen Buijs increase his win percentage and points per game.

Transfers in:ย Ivan Marquez (1. FC Nurnberg), Dimitrios Kimnios (Panathinaikos), Mattijs Branderhorst (FC Utrecht), Philip Brittijn (De Graafschap), Paul Gladon (free)

Transfers out:ย Remy Vita (Tondela), Rodrigo Guth (Talleres), Robyn Esajas (Chaves), Onur Demir (FC Petrzalka 1898), Milan Robberechts (Patro Eisden), Alessio Da Cruz (Athletic Club), Josip Mitrovic (Slaven), Darijo Grujcic (Wisla Krakow), Mitchell Dijks (free)

Key player:ย Kaj Sierhuis

Last season, Sierhuis could only manage 11 games for Fortuna Sittard. The striker had bagged 15 goals the season prior and the sides lack of a goal scorer outside of Sierhuis showed. Buijs will hope he is back fully fit and firing, as they have lost goals with the departure of Alessio Da Cruz.

Young player to watch:ย Philip Brittijn

Brittijn had a strong campaign for De Graafschap last season. The 21-year-old scored seven goals and grabbed two assists in 39 games. The versatile midfielder has been progressing steadily in the second tier and now gets the chance to step up. With so many players leaving, he should get some opportunities to showcase his talent.

Transfer window needs:

The squad is looking full, but that isnโ€™t necessarily a good thing. If Alen Halilovic does leave they will need to find a replacement, as while inconsistent he did contribute the second most assists for the side. What Fortuna Sittard need is some of the new boys to come in and make an impact.
