Fortuna Sittard considering Phillip Cocu in search for new manager

Phillip Cocu is an option being considered by Fortuna Sittard in their search for a new manager.

The Dutch side are currently without a manager after sacking Sjors Ultee just three matches into the new season, with the club losing all three of them.

According to Voetbal International, Cocu is a candidate being discussed internally. He has previously lifted the Eredivisie as a manager with PSV and has been out of work since being sacked by Derby at the end of 2020.

Technical Director Sjoerd Ars refused to comment on specifics but did say the club want a Dutch coach and that many have already gotten in touch.

“As it goes in football, after Sjors’ dismissal, I soon received fifteen apps and ten emails from coaches who offer themselves, or their agents”, he told VI.

“Experienced people too, with a good reputation. So I don’t have the impression that trainers are reluctant to work with us. And that doesn’t surprise me. I think this is a fantastic moment to become a coach of Fortuna.

“Our budget has gone up, I think there is a good selection, the club is growing and the season has only just started. It’s not that we’re stiff at the bottom after ten games.”
