Former St Pauli and 1. FC Nürnberg defender finds new home with Almere City

Almere City have announced the signing of James Lawrence on a free. The 32-year-old Welsh defender has been without a club since leaving 1. FC Nürnberg at the end of the 2023/2024 campaign. Following their 7-1 humbling at the hands of PSV, Almere City fans will certainly be happy that some defensive reinforcements are coming in. In just three games to start the Eredivisie season they have conceded 11 goals.

Once part of the Arsenal and then QPR academies, Lawrence then moved to the Netherlands and ended up as part of the Ajax system. He has since had a very interesting career that has seen him play in Slovakia, Belgium and Germany. He most recently played for St Pauli and 1. FC Nürnberg. During his time in Germany he played 54 games for St Pauli and then 28 for Nürnberg. His most successful time was in Slovakia with AS Trencin, where he played over 100 games and scored nine goals and won a handful of trophies. Lawrence has also been capped at international level by Wales.
