Benito Raman came off the bench to win the game for KV Mechelen this weekend. The now veteran forward, who had missed the opening two games due to suspension, struck late to give his side a 1-0 win over Westerlo. The goal was a landmark moment for Raman, who was able to celebrate 100 professional goals. Last season the striker had the best season of his career with Mechelen, but after the game he did not rule out leaving the side this summer.
As reported by HLN, Raman said ‘Things can move quickly in football. For players like me, something can happen in any transfer window‘ when asked about another move. However, Raman did go on to say ‘At the same time, it would be perfectly fine for me to play here—so to speak—until the end of my career…I’m also very happy here‘.
Raman has had spells in Germany as well as other Belgian side. The 30-year-old scored 33 of his 100 goals across the border, playing for the likes of Schalke 04 and firstly Fortuna Düsseldorf. Raman has also played for Standard Liege, Sint Truiden, Beerschot, Gent, Kortrijk and Anderlecht during his time in Belgium. In 2024 he had a brief spell with Samsunspor but did not score in 11 games for the side.
