Former Oostende and Genoa boss Alexander Blessin could be new Union St Gilloise head coach

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Aleksander Blessin could be in line to take over the recent vacancy at Union St Gilloise. Yesterday there was certainly a lot of shock when Union announced that Karel Geraerts was departing the club. The club and head coach had been in conversations around a new contract, but the talks fell through and both have decided to mutually end cooperation. Geraerts has spent four years with the club, joining as an assistant before becoming the head coach last summer when Felice Mazzu departed for Anderlecht. Now, Union will be looking for their third head coach in the last three years.

Blessin left Oostende to join Genoa, but the German did not last long being sacked after just under a year in charge. Blessin had great success with Oostende during his time in Belgium, with his high pressing style of football helping them qualify for the play-offs. The German head coach has been available since December 2022.
