Former Mainz and Hertha Berlin midfielder to join RKC Waalwijk in bid to make 2026 World Cup with Suriname

VI are reporting that former Mainz and Hertha Berlin midfielder Jean-Paul Boëtius is returning to Dutch football. Boëtius, who has played for Feyenoord in the past, will join second tier side RKC Waalwijk for the rest of the season. Boëtius is hoping to play a part in Suriname’s bid to make the 2026 World Cup, with Bolivia standing in their way.

Boëtius, who has been capped by the Dutch national team, began his career with Feyenoord back in 2012. He since went on to play for Basel and Genk before moving to the Bundesliga. Here, he spent three seasons with Mainz, playing 129 games and scoring 13 goals. In 2022 he left the club to join Hertha Berlin. However, Boëtius only spent one season with Hertha Berlin before leaving. His next club was Darmstadt, where he spent last season and part of this current season. However, his contract was terminated and he has been a free agent since leaving the second tier side.

Boëtius joins an RKC Waalwijk side that were relegated from the Eredivisie last season. If they want to bounce back, they will have to do so via the play-offs. RKC are currently eighth, which is the final play-off spot available. They are just a point behind Almere City in seventh but level on points with FC Dordrecht in ninth.
