Former Lyon defender Jason Denayer joins Red Devils in Kuwait, worry for Jan Vertonghen’s fitness?

The Red Devils announced on their social media that former Lyon defender Jason Denayer has been added to the training camp in Kuwait as back-up. Denayer. capped 35 times by the Belgian national team, was not part of the original 26 man selection. However, Jan Vertonghen has been dealing with an injury that kept him out of Anderlecht’s game against Antwerp earlier this month.

Denayer left Lyon in the summer to join UAE based side Shabab Dubai, where he has made 5 appearances so far this season. Denayer appears to be behind Leicester’s Wout Faes, Stade Rennais Artur Theate and Vertonghen’s fellow Anderlecht defender Zeno Debast, one of our World Cup one’s to watch, in Roberto Martinez’s defensive pecking order.

Belgium will face World Cup debutants Canada in their opening match of group F on the 23rd of November, before facing Morocco and Croatia in the remaining group games. At the last World Cup, the Red Devils reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual winners France. Belgium faced England in their battle for bronze, which they won 2-0 thanks to goals from Eden Hazard and Thomas Meunier.
