Former Fulham defender Denis Odoi finds new clubs months after leaving Antwerp

NAC Breda have a new signing. Ghanaian international and former Fulham defender Denis Odoi has joined the Eredivisie side on a free transfer. Odoi has been a free agent since agreeing to terminate his contract with Antwerp in the summer, having only joined the side the season before on a free from Club Brugge. Odoi had been training with Belgian second division side Kortrijk and while many would have expected him to join the club, he has moved over to the Eredivisie instead. The move seeโ€™s Odoi link back up with former Club Brugge head coach Carl Hoefkens. Odoi has signed a deal with NAC Breda until the end of the season

The 37-year-old Odoi began his career with OH Leuven before joining Sint Truiden in 2009. After a handful of seasons with the Canaries he was signed by Anderlecht, where he spent two seasons and won back to back league titles. In 2013, after just 47 appearances for the Mauves, he joined Lokeren. Odoi made 131 appearances for Lokeren between 2013 and 2016, helping the side win the domestic cup in 2013/2014.

In 2016 he moved to Fulham, where he would spend the longest period of time at any club of his career. From 2016 up until January 2022 Odoi played 177 games for Fulham across both the Premier League and the Championship. He finally left England and returned to Belgium in 2021 to join Club Brugge. In his first season with Club Brugge Odoi won the Belgian Pro League for the third time in his career. Despite making 39 appearances for the side during the 2023/2024 season, Odoi left Club Brugge at the end of that season and joined Antwerp. Odoi was a regular for Antwerp last season, playing 32 games with two goals and two assists.

While getting on in age, the Ghanaian international will certainly add experience and some quality to NAC Breda. He showed that his fitness levels and speed have not fully diminished just yet during his one year with Antwerp.
