Former Eredivisie pair shine as Suriname thrash Guyana 5-1

Suriname qualified for the quarter finals of the CONCACAF Nations League on Wednesday with an emphatic home victory over Guyana.

The Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadion in Paramaribo saw a scintillating 5-1 score line, thanks to two goals by former PEC Zwolle and ADO Den Haag man Sheraldo Becker, and a goal by former Feyenoord left-back Ridgeciano Haps.

Becker opened the scoring quickly with a smart finish from a Gleofilo Vlijter cut-back on the left just three minutes in. He then notched his second in the 10th minute, with an almost identical finish, this time reacting to a Quillen Roberts save.

Jalen Jones grabbed one back in the 13th minute for the Golden Jaguars, yet former Willem II youth product Virgil Misidjan made sure it was 3-1 before the break.

Just six minutes into the new period, Suriname picked up where they left off. Haps crossed low for Denzel Jubitana (formerly of Roda JC) for a simple tap-in, before Jubitana then returned the favour to pick out the wing-back to seal a dominant outing 20 minutes from the end.

The victory means that Suriname is assured of second place in Group A of the Nations League. They can now prepare for the quarter finals on the 14th and 19th of November.
