Former Dutch internationals heap praise on Vincent Janssen

Pierre van Hooijdonk and Rafael van der Vaart have heaped praise on Vincent Janssen following the Antwerp striker’s performance off the bench in the Netherlands’ match against Poland.

Janssen was named in the Netherlands squad after making an excellent start to life in Belgium and was brought off the bench just after half-time.

He made a big impact in the rest of the match, getting an assist for Steven Bergwijn and bringing team-mates into play a number of times.

Van Hoojdonk, a former Oranje striker himself, was hugely impressed with the performance.

“He won almost every duel. With that second goal he puts the ball ready for a right leg, he really plays an important role there,” he said on NOS.

Van der Vaart meanwhile missed seeing a player like Janssen play for the national team.

“I miss a striker like Janssen these days. He is already busy holding off the defender before he receives the ball. Like, I’ve got hold of you and I won’t let you go.”
