Former Dortmund and Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa on his ‘deliberate’ goal from a corner

Following the 2-1 win over Charleroi on Saturday evening, experienced Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa was asked whether his goal direct from a corner was deliberate. As reported by Voetbalkrant, Kagawa answered “Not on purpose? Sure” with a wink.

This was only Kagawa’s second goal for Sint Truiden, the last being a penalty against Mechelen. Former BVB Dortmund midfielder Kagawa lined up alongside fellow countrymen Daichi Hayashi and Shinji Okazaki, a link up the midfielder appeared to enjoy. “The coach seemed to be looking for more connection up front. In that respect, the three of us form a strong trio. We speak the same language, know each other’s qualities”.

Sint-Truiden’s 2-1 win over Charleroi ended a run of two straight defeats and see’s the side leap frog their opponents into 10th place. With 16 points from 12 matches, Sint-Truiden are just three points off of play off two. The side have a tricky trip to Club Brugge on Wednesday before a home tie with OH Leuven on Saturday.
