Former Crystal Palace midfielder finds new club in Antwerp

HLN are reporting that Jaïro Riedewald is set to join Antwerp. The 27-year-old Dutch midfielder is available on a free transfer after leaving Premier League side Crystal Palace after his contract expired this summer. Riedewald will bring versatility to the Antwerp squad, as he is able to play in central midfield or in central defence. It likely signals the departures of both Mandela Keita and Alhassan Yusuf this summer, with the two young midfielders having been linked to moves away.

After coming through the Ajax academy, Riedewald cost Crystal Palace around €9m back in the summer of 2017. The midfielder, who has been capped at every level for the Dutch national team, had played 93 games for Ajax before moving to south London. The midfielder only made 96 appearances for Palace in seven years, with the 2020/2021 being his most consistent with 33 Premier League games and two goals. He leaves the side having scored three goals and providing one assist during his time there.

Antwerp put in their best display of the season so far this Sunday with a 6-1 hammering of Sint Truiden at home.
