Former Chelsea, AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons defender grabs first goal of the season as Standard Liege keep top six hopes alive

Henry Lawrence was the hero for Standard Liege this weekend. The defender, formerly of Chelsea, MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon, scored his first goal of the campaign this weekend as Standard Liege beat Zulte Waregem away from home. The result saw the end of Sven Vandebroeck as head coach of Zulte Waregem, while for Vincent Euvrard and his side, it keeps them in with a chance of top six finish.

Lawrence, who is still only 24, joined Standard Liege back in 2023 on a free transfer from Chelsea. Lawrence had been part of the Chelsea academy for a number of years but never made a first team appearance for the Premier League side. Instead, he spent the 2021/2022 season out on loan at AFC Wimbledon, playing 32 games. The next season he joined AFC Wimbledonโ€™s rivals, MK Dons. Here he played 35 games, scoring twice.

Lawrence was signed by Standard Liege as part of their drive to bring in younger players on cheaper deals with the view to sell them on in the future. Lawrence has since played 56 games for the club, scoring twice. Last season he played 35 games for the side and this season he has played 20 games.
