Former Charlton and Angola striker Igor Vetokele departs Westerlo to continue career with City Group’s Lommel

Lommel have announced the signing of 31-year-old striker Igor Vetokele. The former Angolan international has left Westerlo after joining them from Charlton in the summer of 2019. In 27 league games for the newly promoted side he scored five goals and provided one assist. In 92 games for the club, mainly in the second tier of Belgian football, Vetokele scored 19 goals and provided three assists.

Lommel are part of the City Group and have looked to balance the large amount of young players they get from the partnership with experienced players who know the league. Vetokele still has a lot to offer and could help them in a potential push for promotion next season.

The Angolan began his career at Gent before moving to Cercle Brugge. He then moved to FC Copenhagen before Charlton spent €3m on him in the summer of 2014. During his time with the club he scored 18 goals in 86 games. The striker had loan spells with a number of other Belgian sides, such as Zulte Waregem and Sint-Truiden.
