Former Ajax technical director Marc Overmars suspended for one year due to inappropriate behaviour

De Telegraaf reports that the Sports Jurisdiction Institute has suspended former Ajax technical director Marc Overmars for two years, one of which is conditional. The 50-year-old is guilty of transgressive behaviour, according to the ISR ruling.

The suspension only applies within the KNVB and organisations affiliated with the Dutch Football Association. Overmars currently works as director of football at Antwerp, and therefore this has no effect on him for the time being.

Marc Overmars left Ajax in February of last year after several reports were made relating to inappropriate behaviour towards female staff at the Amsterdam club. The former Arsenal and Barcelona winger is said to have sent photos of his genitals to women. After leaving Ajax, Overmars quickly joined Belgian side Antwerp.

On Thursday, the ISR disciplinary committee published the ruling and deemed a complaint proven. The person reporting the complaint had provided more than 300 pages of messages via WhatsApp over a period of more than 3.5 years, which were studied by an expert. ‘The vast majority of those messages are sexually explicit and contain one-sided, very explicit material,’ the disciplinary committee concluded.
