Former Ajax and Sheffield United striker Richairo Zivkovic signs for Singapore Premier League side Lion City Sailors after leaving Emmen

Richairo Zivkovic has made the move from FC Emmen to Singapore. The former Ajax and Sheffield United striker has signed for Lion City Sailors, who play in the Singaporean top flight. The 26-year-old will be managed by the former FC Utrecht assistant coach Aleksandar Rankovic. Zivkovic has joined on a free transfer and signed a one-year contract with the club.

Eight years ago, Zivkovic was seen as one of the Netherlands’ most exciting young talents. The striker kicked off his career with FC Groningen before moving to Ajax in 2014. In Amsterdam he featured 10 times for the first team, scoring two goals and providing one assist. In 40 appearances for Ajax’s U21’s he scored 27 goals. A move to Utrecht followed and then Oostende in Belgium.

In 2019, China came calling. A 23-year-old Richairo Zivkovic moved to Chinese Super League side Changchun Yatai. He featured 26 times in total, scoring 15 goals. In January 2020 he made a surprise loan move to Sheffield United, where he played just five times and failed to make a goal contribution. He then returned to China, followed by a move to Red Star Belgrade and then back to the Netherlands to play for FC Emmen. Last season he scored six goals in 36 appearances as Emmen were relegated to the Eerste Divisie. Now, Zivkovic will be playing for the Lion City Sailors.
