Fiorentina v Genk Preview | Tough task for unbeaten Genk in tight Conference League Group

Genk face a tough task as they travel to Europa Conference League group leaders Fiorentina. The Italians are top of the group with eight points, while Genk are in third on six. The Belgian side remain unbeaten in the competition, yet their inability to turn draws into wins means they are currently sat on the outside looking in when it comes to qualification. If they can manage to get a draw or a win in Italy, they will fancy their chances with the final game being against Cukaricki. The Serbian side have yet to pick up a point this campaign and have only scored once, conceding 12 goals in their four matches.

Genk go into the game with inconsistent form. They’ve won two of their last five, with a draw and two defeat amongst those results. Their previous Conference League outing was a 1-1 draw with Hungarian side Ferencvaros, a frustrating result considering a win would have put them in the driving seat. They will now have to hope that when Ferencvaros and Fiorentina face off in the final group match there is a winner. If they lose to the Italians they will be hoping that their opponents do them a favour on the final matchday.

Fiorentina also come in with patchy form. They have only won two of their previous five, with one of those being a narrow 1-0 win over the aforementioned Cukaricki. They have lost the other three games in Serie A, including a 1-0 defeat to AC Milan. In fairness, the other two defeats were both narrow 1-0 losses to Lazio and Juventus. A win for Fiorentina would guarantee their place in the next round.
