FIFA rejects Marc Overmars suspension appeal

As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, FIFA has rejected the appeal submitted by Marc Overmars over his global football suspension. A decision on whether to go to the International Sports Tribunal (TAS), the last appeal option, will only be made after reading the motivation, according to the former Barcelona and Arsenal players spokesperson.

With the suspension remaining in place, Overmars will be unable to carry out his role as Sporting Director at Antwerp. Soon after being let go by Ajax, Antwerp moved to bring Overmars to Belgium. Since joining, he helped guide the side to their first title since 1957. However, the speed with which he was appointed after the allegations at Ajax has meant that the ramifications of his actions and the impact on Antwerp has always been something hanging over the club.

Last month, the club issues a statement supporting Overmars in his appeal against the ruling, claiming that everyone deserved a second chance.
