Feyenoord have confirmed that Ayase Ueda will miss the rest of the calendar year due to injury. The Japan international was forced off the field during last Wednesday’s defeat to Ajax and was absent from Saturday’s game against AZ Alkmaar.
Ueda’s injury mean Feyenoord have one first team striker remaining, as last season’s club top scorer Santiago Giménez was also recently ruled out of action for a lengthy period. Summer signing Julián Carranza will lead the line for the remainder of the year.
Ayase Ueda has experienced an impressive start to the season, scoring four goals in 12 games including one in the Champions League against Benfica. The forward will miss some crucial games due to injury, with Salzburg, Manchester City and Sparta Prague still to come in the Champions League in 2024. Feyenoord also face Almere, Heerenveen, Fortuna Sittard and Waalwijk in upcoming Eredivisie matches. Head coach Brian Priske now has an every tougher task on his hands.
