Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kökçü becomes Benfica’s ‘most desired’ summer transfer target

According to the Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Benfica are showing serious interest in Feyenoord’s Orkun Kökçü. The 22-year-old Turkish midfielder is considered ‘coach Roger Schmidt’s most wanted summer acquisition.’ Kökçü has recently confirmed he is open to a move away from De Kuip this summer. Having just won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord, several clubs are said to be interested in the Turkish international. Benfica are the latest side to show interest.

This season Orkun Kökçü has scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 46 appearances for Feyenoord. He’s been one of the stars of the season under Arne Slot. Speaking to ESPN last week, the midfielder said ‘If the right club comes, I think I do want to make a move this summer.’

Portuguese Primeira Liga champions, Benfica, are still searching for the ideal successor to Enzo Fernández. In January, the midfielder joined Chelsea from Benfica for a British-record £106.8m. A Bola have said ‘Roger Schmidt lists Kökçü as a priority to strengthen the midfield’. Other clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are also reportedly monitoring the attacking midfielder.
