Stefan de Vrij hoped for Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League draw and that’s what he got, as VI report. The Inter defender will meet his old club in a double encounter, with a place in the quarter-finals on the line.
For De Vrij it will be the first time that he will play against Feyenoord, since his departure from De Kuip in 2014: “I’m really looking forward to it.”
“When it was announced that we might play against Feyenoord, I really hoped that this would be the draw. I’ve always wanted to play against Feyenoord because this feels like coming home. I was trained there, I owe a lot to the club, Feyenoord still has a special place in my heart and I know from my own experience how great the atmosphere will be. It’ll be fantastic to return there again.”
Although De Vrij emphasizes that he would like to face Feyenoord for sentimental reasons, he certainly does not see his old club as an easy target.
“They are doing great in the Champions League. They have won against Girona, Benfica, came back great against Manchester City, beat Bayern Munich and eliminated AC Milan. So it will be anything but easy for us. Feyenoord have a strong team, especially if they get some of the injured players back.”
