โ€œThis feels like my second homeโ€ โ€“ Santi Gimenez enjoyed his official Feyenoord farewell

Santiago Gimenez enjoyed his farewell at Feyenoord. The fans waved the 24-year-old Mexican striker goodbye during halftime of the Rotterdammersโ€™ friendly against VfL Wolfsburg.

โ€œIt feels great to be back here,โ€ Gimenez told ESPN afterwards. โ€œThis feels like my second home. Iโ€™ve felt that way ever since I arrived. So itโ€™s nice to be back here and say goodbye to the fans this way. Of course, it was important for me to say goodbye.โ€

Gimenez, of course, left for AC Milan in January for a record 32 million euro fee. However, during that move, he wasnโ€™t able to plan a short-term return to Rotterdam. โ€œIt was a difficult farewell, as Iโ€™d already reached an agreement with AC Milan, and then we suddenly found ourselves facing each other in the Champions League qualifying round.โ€ There, Feyenoord defeated AC Milan 2-1 on aggregate.

โ€œNo matter where I play or where I am, I will always be a Feyenoord fan. I have so many wonderful memories here. I came here as a child, and Feyenoord made a man out of me. My Champions League debut against Lazio was truly something I will cherish forever. I still have a lot of contact with the Feyenoord players I played with. I always try to watch the games and will continue to follow them.โ€
