Feyenoord edge out Groningen to set up KNVB Cup final clash with NEC Nijmegen

Feyenoord ended Groningen’s hopes of a fairytale cup final as the Eredivisie side came back from a goal down to win 2-1 late on. The second tier side had taken the lead during the first half, with Laros Duarte converting to give the away side fans hope of a trip to the final.

However, David Hancko equalised just after the hour mark, and with time winding down Ondrej Lingr made it 2-1 to the hosts. Feyenoord dominated the ball and had plenty of chances to make the game safe and will be glad that they were able to eventually find a way past Hidde Jurjus in the Groningen goal.

Their prize is a clash with NEC Nijmegen in the final, who themselves overcame second tier opposition Cambuur to make the final. NEC have never won the cup, coming second on four occasions. For Feyenoord, they are looking to grab their 14th domestic cup, with their previous win being during the 2017/2018 season.
