Feyenoord confirm the signing of Thomas Beelen from PEC Zwolle

Feyenoord have won the race to sign Thomas Beelen from PEC Zwolle. The 22-year-old defender joins the Eredivisie champions following a successful season with Zwolle, who finished second in the Eerste Divisie to gain automatic promotion back to the top flight.

Beelen featured 30 times last season. The centre-back played a vital role in Zwolle’s solid defence and he even contributed at the other end of the pitch. Beelen scored one goal and provided four assists.

PSV, AZ and FC Twente also showed serious interest in the defender, but Feyenoord will be the youngster’s new club. Beelen will link up with his former PEC Zwolle teammate, Thomas van den Belt, who officially joined Feyenoord at the beginning of the month. Thomas Beelen can play as a centre-back or as a defensive midfielder. He could be a brilliant option for Arne slot next season as Feyenoord look to retain their Eredivisie title. Beelen becomes Feyenoord’s fourth acquisition of the summer.
