Felice Mazzu confirms Charleroi in discussions to sign AS Monaco’s Willem Geubbels

Charleroi head coach Felice Mazzu has confirmed that Charleroi are speaking to AS Monaco over the transfer of striker Willem Geubbels. The 21 year-old attacker cost Monaco 20 million euros in 2019 when they signed him from Lyon, however he has only played 17 games since joining, scoring once. Last year, Geubbels was on loan at fellow Ligue 1 side Nantes, where he played 26 times, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Charleroi have been searching for a striker since losing Vakoun Issouf Bayo to Watford in the summer. Bayo scored 11 goals in 16 games for the Zebras last year, as well as contributing one assist. So far this season former Venezia player Daan Haymans is the teams stop scorer with five goals.

In terms of outgoings, the side have already loaned out Martin Wasinski to relegation threatened Kortrijk till the end of the season. One of Iran’s World Cup stars, Ali Gholizadeh can leave Charleroi in January if the price is right. The 26 year-old made three appearances for the Iranian national team in Qatar, providing an assist. He has 29 caps for his country and has scored six goals.
