Mees Hilgers will miss FC Twente’s next two matches following his straight red card against PSV on Saturday, VI reports. The 22-year-old defender received a red card 25 minutes into the clash for a high challenge on Hirving Lozano.
The Dutchman slid into Lozano’s ankle with his studs raised, in what easily could have been a leg breaker. His absence from the rest of the match meant that PSV were able to claim a 3-0 victory away from home.
Twente’s defeat was their first at home in the Eredivisie since May last year. Mees Hilgers’ horror challenge played a huge part in ending his side’s incredible streak at home. The defender will miss Twente’s match against Go Ahead Eagles and the match against Excelsior.
Hilgers will be available again ahead of his side’s clash with Sparta Rotterdam before the winter break. Twente will also have him back for next month’s KNVB Cup clash with PSV. He’ll have to be on his best behaviour if he has to face Hirving Lozano down the right flank again.
