Old favourite returns to FC Twente on loan to recharge career

Ramiz Zerrouki has officially returned to FC Twente on loan from Feyenoord. The Algerian international is back in Enschede after an injury-hit season at Feyenoord saw him fall down the pecking order.

Zerrouki leaves Feyenoord in pursuit of consistent opportunities with his old club, where he was previously seen as a star player. Speaking earnestly to the press, Zerrouki said, โ€œI left here two years ago, so you donโ€™t expect to be back now. Sometimes things happen like that.

โ€œFC Twente were specifically looking for a player like me. I obviously discussed it with Jan Streuer and the manager, but that didnโ€™t last long. We know what we have in common and what we can expect from each other.โ€

Despite the hefty price tag of โ‚ฌ7.2 million, the midfielder never quite broke through at De Kuip. In two seasons, Zerrouki has so far made 65 appearances across all competitions, but came on as a substitute in just under half of those appearances. His contract with Feyenoord runs until the summer of 2027. There is no intention to sell Zerrouki back to Twente as of yet.

Technical director Jan Streuer spoke positively with Zerrouki back in the fold. โ€œWhen you get signals that Ramiz is available, you donโ€™t hesitate. He brings good balance to the team, and his style of play gives us more options. We know exactly what Ramiz can do, and weโ€™re convinced heโ€™ll show it again here. This is a win-win situation for both him and us.โ€
