FC Groningen sign Mads Bech Sorensen on loan from Brentford

Groningen have signed Brentford defender Mads Bech Sorensen on loan for the rest of the season, the club announced.

The Eredivisie side have had a busy January transfer window already with the signings of Johan Hove and Aimar Sher but have now added more depth in their defence with the signing of the 24-year-old centre-back.

Sorensen returned to his parent after an unsuccessful loan spell for Ligue 1 side OGC Nice where he failed to make a single appearance for Didier Digard’s side.

Despite this, technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus sees nothing but the positives in bringing the Danish footballer to the Euroborg Stadion.

He said: “Mads is a big, physically strong central defender. He has trained and played football at a high level in recent seasons and therefore brings the necessary experience with him.

We think he can be of direct value to our defence and also attribute leadership qualities to him. We wish Mads a lot of success in the coming months at FC Groningen.”

Sorensen made six appearances for his parent club this season including a start in both the FA Cup and EFL Cup as well as four from the bench in the Premier League.
