Fabio Silva delighted with start at PSV Eindhoven

PSV striker Fabio Silva is happy that he was able to crown his first starting place for the team from Eindhoven with a goal. With his playing style, the talented forward offers head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy a welcome extra option, Voetbal Internatinal reports.

In his seventh appearance for PSV, the striker – on loan from Wolves – was allowed to start up-front for the first time. After just nine minutes it was already a hit following a pass from Johan Bakayoko, 17, when Silva, 20, nodded his third goal for the Eredivisie side.

He had already scored as a substitute against FC Groningen and Sevilla, although that last goal could not prevent Europe from being eliminated.

He said: “We’ve had a good response. This was an important game for us to keep up with the top, and we succeeded. I think we deserved to win.”

The Portuguese himself is enjoying the title race and is looking forward to the months to come.

“Of course the pressure to win is there with us. We play for the prizes, but I like that pressure, that’s good. It’s very simple; we have to get better every game and keep up the competition. At least we’re on the right track now.”

Speaking to the press, Silva was also asked about his past. At 17, he was already taken away by Wolves for no less than €40 million but since his departure from Porto, he has never been able to fulfil that great promise and he was loaned out to Anderlecht, among others.

“No, it”s not a burden,” he said.

“It’s not easy, but it hasn’t changed me. Young players simply go for high amounts these days. I just focus on playing football. I have always worked hard and I will continue to do so. I now focus on PSV, on winning prizes here. After all, there is still much room for improvement in my game.”
