David Hubert must be pinching himself. Sacked by Anderlecht last season after a brief spell as interim head coach, he took over from Chris Coleman at OH Leuven this summer. The side have started the season poorly, yet Hubert’s reputation clearly hasn’t been impacted. The young Belgian head coach was announced today as the replacement for Sebastien Pocognoli at Union St Gilloise. Hubert leaves second from bottom OH Leuven with just two wins from 10 games to take over at the defending champions who have only lost once this season.
Many had expected that highly rated Charleroi head coach Rik De Mil would be the one to replace Pocognoli, but it appears that the Zebras price to let De Mil leave was far too much for Union St Gilloise. Instead they have ended up with Hubert, not one that many would have felt was being lined up to take over. The head coach will now be under pressure to prove that he is the right man for a side that are looking to defend their title and compete in the Champions League. Ironically, his first match in charge will be against De Mil’s Charleroi at the weekend.
